I have just had a bit of a disaster at the Marlow Duathlon and so thought it would be good to share a few lessons I have learnt.
I am doing Ironman Austria in July and so have been constantly tweeking my kit to get the best set up. For yesterdays race, I radically changed my bike set up along with trying some new gels, new trainers on the run and a new pacing strategy. The up shot of all this tweeking was that I got on my bike and realised that I had the wrong cleats for the pedals and so had to retire.
So, whether you do multi-sport events or just stick to running - stick to one or two changes per race and think through any un-intended consequences. My wife also pointed out that if I had have done well (or even badly) then I wouldn't have known which made the most difference anyway!!
All in all, not my best hour!
Congrats to everyone else who finished and now feel very smug.
