Hello all,

As I am new club member and runner, I am keen to receive recommendations about forthcoming races and to also learn who else might be competing with the view to possible car sharing and the like...

I’ve entered the following races so:

11/05/2008 Marlow 5

04/06/2008 The Yateley 10K Road Race Series Race 1

02/07/2008 The Yateley 10K Road Race Series Race 2

13/07/2008 New Forest 10

06/08/2008 The Yateley 10K Road Race Series Race 3

I’m also really interested in the following races:

20/05/2008 Queen Mother Reservoir 5K/10K Race Series - Race 1

01/06/2008 Coombe Hill Run

25/06/2008 Finch Coasters Woodland 5 Series

27/07/2008 'Down Tow Up Flow' Thames Towpath Half Marathon

Has anyone else entered these races? Has anyone any comments/experiences they would like to share about these races, especially the ones I haven’t yet entered.
Or does anyone have any experience of races they have entered that they would recommend to me

Hi Scott

Hi i was down to run the Dachet Dash but have been unable to run since bracknell half marathon due to a pain in my left calf which now seems to be going as i only have a slight ache now, am missing running very badly.

Profiles

Hi Scot,

I think the Yateleys are a very good set of races (they were teh first ones I did when I started), slight uphill for first 2k start then downhill until half way. The long falt bit between 5k and 8k can be tough mentally before a climb at 9k with a nice downhill/flat finish and to enter in more than one of them can show you how you have improved!!!!

Hi Scott, from the races

Hi Scott,

from the races you've entered I've only done the Yateley's before though I've also entered the Marlow and New Forest events this year.

People have different preferences for racing and you'll fine tune yours over a good selection of events like these. For me, I prefer races that:
1) Aren't too big. I don't like having to arrive hours in advance / pay through the nose for parking / have to walk for miles when you do get parked. I did Reading Half this year and won't be doing it again for exactly these reasons.
2) Are local. Going to the New Forest 10 this July will be the furthest I've ever travelled to a race.
3) Are scenic - I'd much rather spend time on a Summer evening doing a hilly 5 mile cross country than a flat 10K urban race.

For me the Woodley and Wargrave 10K's fit the bill perfectly, the Reading O2O is nice and scenic even though it goes to the centre of Reading (the race is mainly along the waterfront) and is also flat as a potential PB bonus. Worth mentioning as well are the Finch Coasters Woodland 5 Mile (and a bit) runs - like Yateley these are on Wednesday evenings in Crowthorne Woods - a great way to unwind after a hard day at work.

Good luck

Mike
